A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR
Dear Parishioners:
Here are the statistics for attendance
at Mass last weekend:
Saturday, 6:00 p.m., had 35
present. Sunday, 8:00 a.m. had 55. And Sunday, 10:30 a.m. had 85 present. So altogether we had 175 hardy pioneers who
were able to negotiate the snow and ice.
I have also heard from others who made
use of the suggestions I sent out by e-mail with their families to “keep holy
the Sabbath” at home. Thanks to all who
assisted with snow shoveling and plowing and who were so helpful to their
brothers and sisters during our recent “near blizzard.”
There has been some response to the
column in which I gave statistics and details concerning the Diocesan
Planning. The question is “what can we
do?” The reality that we are at a time
of real decision-making is brought home in a stark way by the reality of
numbers of priests—10 parishes open, 5 current pastors available to fill them.
What can you do? First, pray for Vocations. Speak to your children about their future
teaching them to listen for God’s Call.
Second, get involved in the process of planning as you hear about
it. Attend the All-Parish meeting. Agree to be part of committees and councils
that are formed to look into needs and planning. Review your stewardship of Time and Talent as
well as Treasure.
Read
about the areas of study in process and choose to be involved. What is your area of expertise? Are you concerned most about Sacramental
Life, Strategic Planning or the Sustainable Nature of a Parish? Reflect and Pray and come forward!
wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Worship is both expressive
and constitutive; as we gather to worship as one, we indeed become more full
the Body of Christ. Parishes exist
primarily so that the Body of Christ can gather in unity to offer praise and
thanksgiving to God. Evangelization
first begins with a renewed personal commitment to Jesus Christ and the mystery
of His Death-Resurrection. This
experience is then expressed in a life which gives personal and communal witness
to others—including fellow Catholics, both practicing and non-practicing, other
Christians, and even people of other faith backgrounds or no particular faith
commitment.
The “Sacramental Life of a parish is measured by the total number of Adult Baptisms, Infant Baptisms, Adult Full Communions, participants in the RCIA, and Catholic and Interfaith Marriages and Funerals. Every parish will be asked to verify Kenedy Directory Sacramental Statistics, and to document numbers for Sunday Eucharist(s).” Every parish should examine how its sacramental and liturgical life affects the parishioners’ sense of the life and mission of the Church. The parish should also evaluate how they form people to participate in a meaningful way in the life and mission of the parish.
This description of the Parish as Sacramental points to the heart of our identity as the Body of Christ. Are you aware of your participation in the Parish as a Sacrament of Christ? Are you willing to be involved in a study of Blessed Sacrament Parish to offer recommendations for the future in this area? Are you ready to get involved in shaping what is to come?

DID YOU KNOW that Becoming Holy is not
an option for Christians? The Call to
Holiness is universal. God calls every
human being to share in His Life. This
call is a call to share in the very Holiness of God. For Catholics, this means that all members of
the Church from the most recently baptized child to the Pope are addressed by
the same call to be holy.
Be holy as a single person. Be holy in
your Marriage. Be holy in your
ordination. Be holy in your response to a
call to vowed life. Be holy as a
child. Be holy as a grown up. Be holy all your life and discover the
fullness of the Holiness that God has placed in you in Eternity.
We become holy, not by doing holy things, but by
responding to a call and by cooperation with the One Who makes us holy. We do holy things not to become holy, but to
express and make known the holiness that God has given to us. Holiness is the characteristic that
identifies members of God’s family. Be
holy!

Choose Life… “The cloak of silence surrounding abortion has left couples…struggling alone to understand and respond to relationship challenges in the aftermath of an abortion. An essential first step toward change is open acknowledgment of the dark potential of abortion to disrupt individuals’ lives and wreak havoc on intimate bonds.” Priscilla K. Coleman, Ph.D.

Almighty and ever-living God, I approach the
Sacrament of Your only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. I come sick to the Doctor of Life, unclean to
the Fountain of Mercy, blind to the Radiance of Eternal Light, and poor and
needy to the Lord of heaven and earth. Lord,
in Your great generosity, heal my sickness, wash away my defilement, enlighten
my blindness, enrich my poverty, and clothe my nakedness.
May I receive the Bread of angels, the King
of kings and Lord of lords, with humble reverence, with the purity and faith,
the repentance and love, and the determined purpose that will help to bring me
to salvation. May I receive the
Sacrament of the Lord's Body and Blood, and its reality and power.
Kind God, may I receive the Body of Your Only-Begotten Son, our
Lord Jesus Christ, born from the womb of the Virgin Mary, and so be received
into His mystical Body and numbered among His members. Loving Father, as on my earthly pilgrimage I
now receive Your beloved Son, under the veil of a Sacrament, may I one day see
Him Face to face in glory, Who lives and reigns with You for ever. Amen.
