Pastor’s Corner…

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God!

Continuing the litany of thanks from my first homily, I want to thank the people of Blessed Sacrament for the many ways that you have made me feel so welcome. I am so excited to be here and to be serving you as your pastor.

I give thanks to the Lord for the men of the Holy Name Society who helped me move my stuff into the rectory. I thank the Lord for the wonderful staff of Blessed Sacrament who have been a great help to me from the first moment of my arrival. I am thankful for the wonderful ladies who drop off dinner to the rectory (Yum!). I am grateful for our deacons, Deacon Charlie, Deacon Bob, and Deacon Patrick. I give the Lord thanks for every member of Blessed Sacrament Church!

I thank the Lord for all of our parishioners involved in a liturgical ministry. I am thankful for our musicians and members of the choir. When my first funeral came up, I was so happy to discover the great work of the Marian Club and the Bereavement Ministry. I thank the Lord for our Alumni Association, and for all who help us to keep in touch with the graduates of our school. I thank the Lord for all involved in our gardening, and for all who pull weeds. I give thanks for our upcoming Vacation Bible School, for our Single Parent School Supplies Fair, for our St. Vincent de Paul Society and for our Finance Committee.

I thank the Lord for Adoration here at Blessed Sacrament and for all the parishioners who signup to spend an hour with the Lord.

I look forward to greeting as many of you as possible at the receptions after the Masses this weekend. Thanks in advance to all who are working on these receptions.

I look forward to meeting and working with the many groups that help to form the Body of Christ here at Blessed Sacrament Church.

God Bless,

Father Wilson

Plans are underway to host the Third Annual Single Parent & Family Fair on Saturday, August 9th, 10am – 2pm in the Annex & parking lot.  This annual event enables family’s free access to a wide variety of resources that may help alleviate some of their short and long term burdens with the immediate focus on getting single parents  & families/children ready for school in August.

We plan to offer fun for the kids along with free services such as: hair cuts, car washes, & oil changes.  We invite agencies within the city & county such as the Health Dept., Job & Family Services, Pathways, to name a few.

We are requesting donations from area churches and business to help is this big endeavor such as: school supplies, & book bags.  We are also requesting items that could be used as door prizes such as gift cards to local stores.

A list of school supplies attached to grocery bags are available in our church vestibule.  We invited everyone to take a bag and add as many items as you wish.  Donations can be dropped off in the church Vestibule or parish office.  Last year we helped over 550 families and we anticipate that this year the need will be even greater.

If you work for a company or agency that could help with providing services, set up a table of information or volunteer at this event contact Monica Stanley 763-4047 or Kathy Wilson 345-4290.

Natural Family Planning Awareness Week is July 20-26, 2008.  “Freely, Totally, Faithfully,” the way love is shared between a husband and wife, is the theme selected for this year’s observance of Natural Family Planning (NFP) Awareness Week, a time set aside by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) to remind us to “celebrate and reverence God’s vision of human sexuality.” By respecting the love-giving and life-giving dimensions of marriage, fertility education and the practice of NFP can enrich the bond between husband and wife.  NFP classes are available through the Marriage and Family Life Office.  More information on NFP is available on the Bishops’ web site at www.usccb.org/prolife/issues/nfp. To inquire or register for class, call 614/241-2560 or e-mail FLOMailbox@colsdioc.org.
