A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners:

To all who participated in the Parish Mission with Fr. Pat Martin, I say Thanks!  As usual, it was FAN-tastic.  We have begun the year well.  How fitting it was for him to speak to us about Vocations.  Isn’t it a wonderful touch of the Providence of God in the unfolding of that theme for this year at Blessed Sacrament?  There is truly one Holy Spirit, and that Spirit is active among us.

I invite you to gather together your thoughts from the experience of Fr. Pat and to share them with others who were not able to be with us.  What did you hear?  What new do you see?  Are you more aware of the Love God has for you and its implications in your life?

We are all called by God to make known His Love in our broken lives.  We are invited to allow God to transform what might be experienced as negative into a means of God’s opening up the Presence of His Kingdom.  Do you hear God’s voice calling you to receive His Love?

Blessings to all who made Fr. Pat feel so welcome among us.  I am sure that we have not seen the last of him!  He has seven different retreats, and we have experienced three of them.  Let your friends and families in other parishes know about him.  Perhaps he’ll come back soon to a parish nearby.

He Loves Me

He Loves Me is a song given to Brother Patrick A. Martin on April 14, 1977

He loves me! He loves me!
He loves me as I am, oh yes, He loves me!
Yes He loved me yesterday, and yes,
He'll love me still tomorrow!
For He loves me just today, the way I am!

He loves me! He loves me!
And all He asks is that I let Him love me!
Let Him love me as He chooses
With no thoughts of wins or loses,
Let Him love me as I am is all He asks!

He knows me! He knows me!
Better than I know myself, oh yes He knows me!
Who I was the other day,
And who I will become tomorrow!
But He loves me just the same the way I am!

He calls me! He calls me!
He calls me as I am to spread His love!
Knowing well who I have been,
Who I will be, and who I am,
Yet He calls me just the same to spread His love.

He frees me! He frees me!
He frees me to say YES whenever He calls me!
Showing me His own compassion,
Love and care and understanding!
He frees me to say my YES when He calls me!

He loves me! He loves me!
He loves me as I am, oh yes, He loves me!
Finding me wherever I am,
He gently guides me by the hand,
For He loves me as I am, oh He loves me!
For He loves me as I am, oh, He loves me!

(COLUMN 3)

DID YOU KNOW that speaking of our own goals and plans is one step in discerning God’s call?  We have desires and longings in our hearts that come out only when we try to share them.  Have you ever said something in response to a question you were asked that helped you clarify your thoughts?  This is a natural way of allowing our call to unfold.  What do you want to be when you grow up?  You may or may not end up doing whatever you answer, but in trying to answer, you are expressing something inside that wants to come out.

God has a dream for us that is bigger than we can dream for ourselves. And yet, He does help us to begin to find our way through touching our hearts with happiness.  It has been said that if you want to make God laugh, all you have to do is tell Him your plans.  But it is also true that if you tell God what you are thinking, He can help you to refine your vision to encompass what He has in mind for you.

wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

What we have learned together:  Every experience of a person is just one moment in a lifetime.  Scripture says not to call anyone happy until the whole life is revealed.  It is also true that a person who is sad or mean or grouchy can be transformed if we hang in there long enough.  We have to thank God for those who hang in there with us.  It is our responsibility to keep our hearts open even to the most closed persons.  You never know when the walls will come tumbling down.

Choose Life… Writing in the world’s most prestigious bioethics journal, Hastings Center Report (2007), Brown University professor Jacob M. Appel argues that assisted suicide should not only be available to the terminally ill, but also to people with a “purely psychological disease” if the suicidal person “rationally might prefer dignified death over future suffering.” As with abortion, euthanasia advocates started small and are now gradually expanding the “right” they advocate.
