A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR
Dear Parishioners:
We have just a short space of
“Ordinary Time” in our calendar before Lent begins. It is fitting that we make use of this time to
welcome back Fr. Pat Martin for his third visit with our parish for a Parish
Retreat. As all who have experienced Fr.
Pat before know, it is a FAN-tastic opportunity to hear about the ways of God
and the power of God’s Love to heal our broken lives.
Fr. Pat is speaking at all our weekend
Masses, and he will be with us through Wednesday for the Retreat. I invite all families to be sure to
participate. Come to hear the Lord Who
wants to heal you and to speak to your heart.
Our theme for this year is
Vocations. We can be grateful to God
that Fr. Pat has responded so generously to his own vocation and ministry among
God’s People. Let us also listen for the
voice of the Lord and learn to be generous in our response. Let us invite our young people to participate
in the work of the Lord in whatever way He calls them.
During this short space of Ordinary
Time, make plans for your Lenten journey.
Fr. Pat has a web site that may offer
you some ideas for your spiritual journey:

A
Prayer from the Heart
Lord, as we enter into Ordinary Time,
In this space between Christmas and Lent,
Varying the pace from the rush of holidays
Engaging in our daily tasks in habitual ways,
Free us to belong to You
And to be a sign of Your Presence
In our world, so that all may come to know
The Truth that You are ever with Your own.
Holiness is our Call: give us grace to answer.
Teach us and mold us;
Open our spirits to Your Love;
Do in us what Your Word reveals.
All that we are belongs to You.
You are the Lord of all Time. Amen

The Marriage and Family Life Office reminds you that January 21 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
As a nonviolent civil rights leader, Martin Luther King, Jr. was a social
activist in the best Christian tradition. You may want to pray these words with
your family: Gracious God, you create us
and love us and make us to live together in community. We thank you for Martin
Luther King, Jr. and all your children who have been filled with your vision
and who have worked to bring your vision into reality. Guide us to live by your
vision, working to build the community where everyone is welcomed, all are
valued, power is shared, and all your children know wholeness and well-being.
Through Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.

DID YOU KNOW
that God’s sight of us is “filtered” through His look at His Son? We are aware of our limitations and
brokenness. God sees us as whole and
complete in His Son Jesus Christ. Through
the gift of the Incarnation, God took our human nature to Himself. Having entered our world, He stretched our
nature to be able to live the very Life that is His. In Christ, we are complete. Our journey through Time is a journey whose
destiny is already defined—Life Eternal.
When God sees us, He sees us in union with His Son Who lived, suffered,
died and rose, then took our humanity into Triune Life. Our life, with all its limits, has been given
unlimited potential. God calls us to be
who we are in His Son.
wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
What we have learned together: God is calling us to live at a depth that we can reach only if we are willing to stretch and to be stretched. We must try to reach beyond our reach. When we reach for the stars, we arrive more surely at who we are called to be. The journey may not always be pleasant, but it is certainly worth it.

Today…
JOIN in
the worldwide mission of Jesus!
JOIN
the Propagation of the Faith!
As disciples of Jesus, baptized into the
Church and strengthened by the Holy Spirit, we are called to draw others to
Christ: others in our family, in our neighborhoods; others even “to the ends of
the earth.” More than 2,000 years after the birth of Jesus, some two-thirds of
our human family does not yet know Him in faith as we do.
Through the Propagation of the Faith, we can
reach those at work at “the ends of the earth” as ewe help to support the
Church’s evangelizing work in more than 1,150 mission dioceses worldwide. We are needed to offer daily prayer and
regular financial help as well.
Please join the
Propagation of the Faith today. Our
parish will surely become more vibrant in faith as we become more missionary.

Choose Life… As we mark the 35th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s legalization of abortion during all nine months of pregnancy, are we making any progress? A resounding yes! The number of abortions peaked in the mid-1980’s and has steadily declined ever since. Likewise, public opinion has shifted so that 75% of the population thinks abortion should never be legal or legal only under certain circumstances. Statistics of Allan Guttmacher Institute.
