A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners and Guests:

This past week, your Pastor was among the priests who concelebrated at a Mass with Pope Benedict XVI in Washington, D.C.  As this bulletin goes to press, actually, I am on my way to the nation’s capital for this event, traveling with my ordination classmate Fr. Jeff Rimelspach, Pastor of St. Joan of Arc Parish in Powell, Ohio.

Whenever the Pope visits a nation, it is a call to all who live there to be aware of the larger human community.  No doubt Pope Benedict’s message to us will include a challenge to have this in view.  St. Peter’s Ministry, which is entrusted to those who serve as Bishop of Rome, is a ministry of unity.  Jesus Christ left the Church a visible sign of His shepherding love.  God has given all of us the responsibility of caring for one another.  The Pope reminds us of that call and He comes to us, sent by Jesus Christ, to encourage us along the way.

Be sure that you and all your loved ones are held in my heart as I experience the visit of the Holy Father.  Remember to pray for him and for his ministry among God’s People.

This weekend, we welcome Fr. Jerry Stluka for the Sunday morning Masses.  Note: As far as we know, he is not the new Pastor!  He is filling in for me as I celebrate the Masses at his Parish, Holy Cross Church in Columbus.  Holy Cross is celebrating its 150th Jubilee and I will be part of a team of priests giving a Parish Retreat there this week.

Beatitudes for Friends of the Aged

Blessed are they who understand

My faltering step and palsied hand.

Blessed are they who know that my ears today

Must strain to catch the things they say.

Blessed are they who seem to know

That my eyes are dim and my wits are slow.

Blessed are they who looked away

When coffee spilled at table today.

Blessed are they with a cheery smile

Who stop to chat for a little while.

Blessed are they who never say,

“You’ve told that story twice today.”

Blessed are they who know the ways

To bring back memories of yesterdays.

Blessed are they who make it known

That I’m loved, respected and not alone.

Blessed are they who know I’m at a loss

To find the strength to carry the Cross.

Blessed are they who ease the days

On my journey Home in loving ways.

DID YOU KNOW that Witness is our true Easter Duty?  We are witnesses of the gift of Salvation in Jesus Christ.  The Truth of the Resurrection of the Lord and the New Life given to us through Him is seen in us.  We witness to the power of God.  We bring to the world the knowledge of the Truth.  Our lives become a sign of the Presence of God in our world.

When you are put on the Witness stand, how will you testify?  Will the jury be convinced by what you say and do?

Secrets of the Life of the Spirit

The struggles we experience in life are part of God’s permissive Will because He has a higher purpose in mind.  The tests we undergo are to prove our worth in God.  Faith that is tested and proven is precious to God.  It has a power that no earthly reality can overcome.

When you are undergoing a “test” that stretches you, keep your eyes on the prize, the Salvation held out to us in Jesus Christ our Lord.
