A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR
Dear
Parishioners:
Blessed Sacrament Weekend was a
beautiful celebration. Thank you to all
who participated and all who assisted in organizing. Next year, we won’t plan for the two events of Oktoberfest and
Picnic to fall on the same weekend, but when all was said and done, it worked
out this year. I enjoyed myself, for
one!
It is a delight to host others who
come to our early Mass on Oktoberfest Saturday. Something about the crowd who gather annually for that
celebration speaks of the welcome that is the heart of our community. Everyone is genuinely glad to be there.
Celebrating our Picnic Mass outside in
God’s beautiful creation is also a real joy.
The sun, the grass, the trees, and a people who come to be together as
family to worship all create an atmosphere that reminds us what is best about
our community.
I want to thank you all from the
bottom of my heart, and I assure you that I will treasure the memories of these
events for years to come.
To all who were not able to join us,
we want you to know that we missed you!

Prayer Of Thanksgiving
Lord, thank you for life:
we live as
Your Church,
in faith
and hope.
Lord, thank You for love:
we love in
our families,
in work
and in play.
Lord, thank You for prayer:
we pray in
our joy and our sorrow,
in
laughter and silence.
Lord, thank You for this world:
we delight
in rainbows and skyscrapers,
sand dunes
and icicles,
friendships
and music.
Lord, thank You. Amen.

DID YOU KNOW that family life is meant
to teach us how to share the gift of relationship with one another so we can
learn to share it with God? Children
get their first awareness of relationship from parents. Spouses relate to one another in a manner
that teaches them both how life is.
When we see one another as a gift from
God, we come to understand that we are responsible to and responsible for one
another. It is our duty to nurture and
strengthen the gift we have received.
When we acknowledge that our very selves are a gift from God, we have to
live with dignity and respect, for ourselves and for others.
Family life is the mirror of His Love
that God chose to establish as the most basic unit of human society. How do you help your family to realize that
you are grateful for the gift they are to you?
wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
We are almost there!
The most recent report from the Diocese of Columbus has the exciting
news that we now have pledges for the amount of $43,661.12. Our Parish Goal is $44,597.12. So we have reached 97.9% with pledges from
212 households (out of 644) and an average gift of $205.94.
We offer heartfelt thanks to all who have pledged. We heartily encourage any who have not made
a pledge to help us reach the goal.
Remember, after we reach our goal, funds that are donated through the
B.A.A. are returned to the parish without the diocesan tax. Please consider making a pledge if your
family has not already done so.
Only 1/3 of our
membership has achieved something wonderful.
If only five more families would make a pledge with the average gift, we
would be at our goal. Are we not all grateful for all that God has done for us?
wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
What we have learned together: We discover what is best in ourselves as
a Parish Family when we welcome others to spend time with us. We have something very special that is worth
nurturing. When there are disagreements
among us, these do not have to stand in the way of our being open to others
together.

Join Catholic Social Services for its 15th Annual Breakfast with the Bishop, which will be held on Friday, September 28th, at the Hyatt Regency in Columbus. Bishop Frederick F. Campbell will provide a faith perspective on some of the issues that we face in today’s society and how these issues affect the educational system. He will be joined by special guest speaker, Susan T. Zelman, Superintendent of Public Instruction for Ohio. Dr. Zelman believes that all children can learn and achieve in an educational system with high expectations and multiple pathways to succeed. Under Dr. Zelman’s leadership, the Ohio Department of Education created a mission for the state’s educational system that has brought sweeping change through standards-based reform. All proceeds from the breakfast will support the programs and services of Catholic Social Services. Individual tickets are available for $40. Stay
with me, Lord, for You are my light, and without You I am in darkness.

It’s Time – Bake Sale
Five years ago we decided that we had some time and talent left over that we could apply to the “building Fund” of the new school, over and beyond our personal donation. We made a commitment to do a weekly ‘Bake Sale’ for 5 years. That time is now completed. During this period we have collected from your donations around $20,000. THANK YOU! But now it is time!
We have completed our commitment and our health is saying ‘it is time’ to pass it on or give it up altogether. I would not expect one or two people to take this over. However a team of four, six, or eight people would be able to rotate weekends and it would not be a burden on anyone. Time involved: about one hour on Friday morning for pick up, about one hour on Saturday for set - up and another one hour on Sunday morning for pick - up and tear - down.
We will continue through September and the new team will begin on October 5th. Instructions and OJT available!
Anyone who would be interested in this opportunity to help the parish debt with time and talent please call: Deacon Bob at 345-1122 or 258-4912.

Choose Life…”When the choice is made to abort a child based on a medical diagnosis, be it Down Syndrome or any other number of medical issues, it is more than quietly ‘terminating’ flesh and tissue. It is ending a God-given life.” (Brenda Hanson, “The Joy Comes from Doing the Right Thing,” NRL News, June, 2007)

This weekend all “active” Catholic households should have received a special issue of the newly formatted Catholic Times Diocesan Newspaper. As an “insert” is a “special” subscription envelope. If you like what you see and try the Catholic Times for the next 6 months, simply place $5 into the subscription envelope, complete, and either, drop it into the collection basket at Mass this weekend or next, or drop it into the mail before October 1st. If you write a check, and you want to drop it into the collection, make it payable to the parish; if you are going to mail a check, make it payable to Catholic Times. We hope you enjoy all the improvements to “your” Diocesan newspaper.

Licking County Coalition for Housing Matched Savings Program offers low to moderate income individuals & families the help they need to become successful homeowners. Along with a significant monetary contribution (up to $2,000), the program will help participants overcome other obstacles, such as credit challenges and financial education. Called an Individual Development Account (IDA) program, it is a means for participants to save money regularly, usually around $50 per month, towards the down payment of a home. This money is matched by LCCH at a 2 to 1 rate, which means that for every dollar the participant saves, LCCH will contribute two dollars.
Participants must be enrolled in the program for a minimum of six months before they can receive match funds; on average it takes about two years to reach a $1,000 savings goal. LCCH then matches it to give the participant $3,000 to use towards their down payment and any other costs associated with purchasing their home. During that time, participants meet regularly with their case manager and work on improving their credit. The required financial education includes basics, like budgeting and credit, and asset-specific training. Facilitated by realtors, mortgage bankers, and other experts in the field, the asset training will arm participants with the knowledge needed to get the best possible deal.
LCCH is currently taking applicants for the IDA program. If you’re interested, or would like more information, please call (740) 345-1970 between 8:30am & 4:30pm Monday through Friday.
