A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners:

This week I received two letters from Offices of the Diocese of Columbus that struck me differently.  The first to be opened was a challenge; the last was a letter of congratulations.  I will give them to you in the order I opened them.

The Finance Office of the Diocese of Columbus has this reminder:  “The Finance Office has been instructed to do a complete audit of all loans within the Parish Aid Fund that are not on a scheduled repayment plan.  Blessed Sacrament has made an effort to pay towards the debt but Bishop would like to see a more consistent plan of reduction.”

The Office of Development and Planning says this: “Please accept my sincere thanks as you and your parish community have exceeded your goal of the 2007 Bishop’s Annual Appeal.  On behalf of the Office of Development and Planning, I want you to know that we value your example and hard work.  Please thank everyone in your parish, also.”

There we are!  We must keep focused on our goal: responsible stewardship of God’s gifts and a real participation in the life of the Church with the resources God has provided for us.

You will be hearing more in the future about the need to set a course to respond to the Bishop’s call for a “consistent plan.”  Our target is to conduct a campaign in conjunction with next year’s Bishop’s Annual Appeal.  At the moment, we are reviewing our needs and priorities.  Stay tuned!

This Sunday, I invite you to attend the presentation by our Bereavement Committee at Noon on their ministry of consoling and assisting the grieving.  Tuesday evening’s session on Leaving a Legacy is also worth your presence

DID YOU KNOW that the Truth is what sets us free?  When we go after anything less than the Truth, we experience emptiness.  The world has many confusing ideas.  No idea can succeed in offering what it claims.  Only the Truth satisfies.

The Truth is the living relationship of the Holy Trinity.  The Truth is the active involvement of our hearts in the flow of the very Love that is God.  Isolation and selfishness are the road to loneliness.  Dissatisfaction with this world is not a call to rejection of this world, but rather an invitation not to put all our hopes on this world.

If you get your own way, then you are all you get.  If you open your heart to the Truth that comes from God, you get it all.

What we have learned together: Fun and God go together.  What is it that gives you the truest, deepest, most satisfying enjoyment?  If you are not locked in your own imagination, but grounded in reality, you will find that what satisfies most is truly of God.  Moments of bliss are experienced when we transcend our own limited way of seeing things and allow others to share their vision.  Life with God and with God’s People is fun.

Going twice. . . .

Only a couple of parishioners have come forward to consider the idea of a Parish Picture Directory in the next year.   Many have commented that they do not recognize the faces of all those who have become part of our parish recently.  The project of creating a directory would be helpful in this regard. It would be a great souvenir for an outgoing pastor and an aide to a new pastor trying to learn about his flock.

If the Spirit nudges you to assist with this effort, please call the Office.  If no other “takers” come forward, then it will be a good idea that wasn’t to be.

Buy-A-Chime Project

At the recent Ohio Catholic Education Association Conference, Blessed Sacrament School staff attended a session where hand-held Choirchime Instruments were demonstrated.  Teachers realized that our students would benefit in musical talent, coordination skills, and team-building through the collaborative efforts required in Choirchime performance.  Many people in the school community would like to make Choirchime Instruments an addition to our students’ music education.  A contribution of $50.00 can buy one chime.  A donation in any amount toward the Choirchimes would be appreciated.  You can call or visit the school office if you wish to donate to this program.
