A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners:

The month of May brings many thoughts to our hearts.  It is the Month of Mary, our Heavenly Mother.  It also brings Mother’s Day.  We all know that April Showers bring May flowers.  (What do Mayflowers bring?  Pilgrims!)  In the life of our local Church, May also brings the Bishop’s Annual Appeal.

We are reminded in many ways that we are part of a larger whole, members of a Body that calls us to support one another in our journey of Faith.  As Mothers bring us to life in their own flesh, our Heavenly Mother Mary is bringing us to birth in the womb of her spirit, forming Christ in us.  The Church is the Body of Christ, the unfolding reality of God’s “connection” with the world through His Children born of Faith.

Faith calls us to acknowledge Jesus as our Brother.  From the unity of our relationship with Him and with our Father in Heaven flows our responsibility to and for one another.  The Bishop is our local connection to the Universal Church.  It is his duty to remind us of that connection and to call us to respond to the needs of all our brothers and sisters throughout the Diocese of Columbus and throughout the world.

I ask you to be generous in your response to the Bishop’s Appeal.  I call on you to grow in your understanding and response to the Motherly Love of Mary as she forms you into Christ through her cooperation in the life of grace with the Holy Spirit.  May Christ be ever more the center of your life.

Two Wolves

One evening, an older, wiser Cherokee

told his grandson

about a battle

that goes on inside people.

He said, “My son, the battle

is between two wolves

inside us all.

One is Evil.

It is anger, envy, jealousy,

sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance,

lies, false pride, superiority

and ego.

The other is Good.

It is joy, peace, love, hope,

serenity, humility, kindness,

benevolence, empathy, generosity,

truth, compassion and faith.

The grandson thought about it

for a minute

and then asked his grandfather,

“which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee

simply replied,

“the one you feed.”

DID YOU KNOW that the Bread of Life is the very reality of Christ Present to us in Word and Sacrament?  Jesus tells us that He is the Bread of Life, the true Bread that comes down from Heaven.  He is Food for us, body, mind and spirit.  Receive Him in Eucharist.  Receive Him through thoughts about Who He Is and what He has accomplished for us.  Let Him live in you, offering Him to others through your life of Faith and Prayer.

One way to deepen your understanding of Christ as the Bread of Life is to read the Eucharistic discourse from the Gospel of John Chapter 6.  Read it in the Presence of the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament and allow Him to show you Who He Is Himself.  Read it at home.  Read it to your family.  Read it to friends and speak about your love for Him in Holy Communion.  Let the Lord show you how to share your Faith in the Eucharist with those who have not yet come to know Him in the Breaking of the Bread.
