A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners:

The theme for the Fifth Sunday of Lent is Life.  For the R.C.I.A.’s celebration of the Third Scrutiny, the Gospel of the Raising of Lazarus is highlighted.  Two readings for the other Masses have this theme in the background: the Path through the Sea in the first reading is Exodus, and the Gospel account of the Lord’s act of defending the woman caught in adultery implies His saving her from death by stoning.  St. Paul directly speaks of his hope in the Resurrection.

The truest story of our lives is the story of our journey to Eternal Life.  We are destined for this Glory by the very Love of God.  He wants us to make it home with Him and He sends Jesus to show us the way.  Jesus, Who Is the Way, the Truth and the Life, makes possible the completion of God’s design for the universe.  Where death and despair seem to hold sway, we have the gift of Hope that springs eternal.  God invites us to put our Hope in His Mercy, His power to raise us up just as He did our Lord Jesus Christ.

Please don’t be fooled by any of the recent news accounts about the so called “bones of Jesus and his family.”  Our Faith already tells us the Truth.  There are no bones of Jesus – nor of Mary, His Mother – to be found.  Jesus did not marry one human being; He was promised to another, the Church (all of us), His spotless Bride.  All of the ridiculous claims you her are subtle (and at times not so subtle) efforts to distract you from the Truth of your Faith in the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, and the Hope of our own share in that Resurrection by the Love poured out upon us by our Savior.  Live this Truth and bring others to the Lord by the way you live!

A Prayer For Those Who Live Alone

I live alone, dear Lord,

Stay by my side,

In all my daily needs

Be Thou my guide.

Grant me good health,

For that I indeed pray.

To carry on my work

from day to day.

Keep pure my mind,

My thoughts, my every deed,

Let me be kind, unselfish

In my neighbor's need

Spare me from fire, from flood,

Malicious tongues,

From thieves, from fear,

And evil ones.

If sickness or an accident befall,

Then humbly, Lord, I pray,

Hear Thou my call.

And when I'm feeling low,

Or in despair,

Lift up my heart

And help me in prayer.

I live alone, dear Lord,

Yet have no fear,

because I feel Your Presence

Ever near. Amen.

 (COLUMN 3)

DID YOU KNOW that we are called not only to follow Christ, but to live His very life?  We are all part of the Body of Christ.  We share in His life because He chose to become one of us, sharing in all that is human.  By the unity He Himself established through the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, we also experience Divine Life.  We are privileged to live divine life humanly.

The relationship that others speak of with Jesus as our Lord and Savior is correct.  But it does not express the full truth of the depth of sharing our God wills for us.  Not only are we to passively experience the salvation won for us by Jesus Christ our Head; we are also to be actively involved in living as Christ in the world.  Others will be brought to Christ through us if we allow His Spirit to work in us.
