A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners:

The month of June is devoted to the Sacred Heart.  We want to acknowledge the Love of God made known to us through the human heart of Jesus Christ and through His willingness to suffer for our salvation.  The heart of Christ is truly a heart that is shared.  We are held in His heart.  We are one in the Love that flows from His heart.  We are called to allow His Spirit to form us in the image of the One Who has such a heart.

As we enter into the summer months, it is important not to let our duty to God disappear into the myriad of activities that this time of year brings.  God does not take a vacation.  He does give us rest and He invites us to take time for rest and relaxation.  However, we must continue to respond to the call of grace to gather as a worshiping community.  It is certainly possible to give God praise in the outdoors and indeed we ought to praise Him in the midst of His Creation.  But that is not enough to fulfill our obligation to worship Him as His People.  God has established the manner in which He wishes to be worshiped—the Mass.

I invite you to seek out the presence of the Catholic Church wherever you travel.  It is good to be part of worship in other places to discover the true depth of our unity in Christ.  Bring home a bulletin to let your Pastor know you have been to church!  And don’t forget to continue your support of your home parish even while you are away.  (The bills still keep coming even if some of the folks are out of town!)  The summer envelope packets include an envelope for vacation days.  [Please note: that is not a special envelope to pay for the Pastor’s vacation.]

Remember: next week is our Patronal Feast.  Corpus Christi calls us to adore the Lord in His Eucharistic Presence.  Plan to spend some time with the Lord in honor of His gift to us as the Church of the Blessed Sacrament.

Have a wonderful summer!

Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart

O Sacred Heart of Jesus, to Thee I consecrate and offer up my person and my life, my actions, trials, and sufferings, that my entire being may henceforth only be employed in loving, honoring and glorifying Thee. This is my irrevocable will, to belong entirely to Thee, and to do all for Thy love, renouncing with my whole heart all that can displease Thee.

I take Thee, O Sacred Heart, for the sole object of my love, the protection of my life, the pledge of my salvation, the remedy of my frailty and inconstancy, the reparation for all the defects of my life, and my secure refuge at the hour of my death. Be Thou, O Most Merciful Heart, my justification before God Thy Father, and screen me from His anger which I have so justly merited. I fear all from my own weakness and malice, but placing my entire confidence in Thee, O Heart of Love, I hope all from Thine infinite Goodness. Annihilate in me all that can displease or resist Thee. Imprint Thy pure love so deeply in my heart that I may never forget Thee or be separated from Thee.

I beseech Thee, through Thine infinite Goodness, grant that my name be engraved upon Thy Heart, for in this I place all my happiness and all my glory, to live and to die as one of Thy devoted servants.

Amen.

DID YOU KNOW that the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick has the power to give healing to body, mind and spirit?  It is an appeal to the Lord to plunge us into His Paschal Mystery.  That means that it offers salvation to the whole human person.  Some who are touched by this healing Sacrament are physically healed.  Many experience an emotional peace.  All receive the gifts of the Spirit to endure whatever comes.  There is a special strength for the one anointed and for those who share in the suffering that comes from illness.

Be sure to request Anointing of the Sick when you face surgery or in time of serious illness.  It is also for those who are weighed down by the years who are anticipating a call to the Kingdom.  The Sacrament is a powerful sign of God’s Mercy.

Note:  Our current debt on the Centennial building is $2,469,658.  We thank all who have continued to contribute to the Building Fund allowing us to stay current on the interest each month.

We invite any who have not made a pledge to contribute through the monthly envelope and we earnestly request that those who have already completed their initial pledge continue to assist us according to their means.  It has been suggested that we use the Bishop’s Annual Appeal as a vehicle for managing this debt.  All dollars contributed over our goal will be available to us for this purpose without the diocesan tax (5%).  Give through the B.A.A. and your dollar stretches further.

2007 Catholic Home Missions Appeal

Strengthening the Church in America

(clip art) Today’s second collection is the Catholic Home Missions Appeal.  It supports missions here in the United States.  There are many places in America – Appalachia, the Deep South, the Southwest, the Rocky Mountain states – where the Catholic Church struggles just to keep parishes open and to educate children in the faith.

Last year, Home Missions gave more than $3 million to dioceses along the Gulf Coast devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.  Please God, there will be no repetition of these disasters.  But Catholic parishes in rural America still struggle to offer Mass, the sacraments, religious education.  Some dioceses are terribly short of priests, sisters, and the money needed to run parishes.  Please give generously to help your fellow Catholics here in America.
