A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR
Dear
Parishioners:
Summer is in full swing. But it is
going by very quickly. In fact, we only
have a month and a week to go before School starts. In anticipation of the joy of children’s voices every day in our
hallowed halls, this week, Blessed Sacrament will be experiencing its first
annual Vacation Bible School. What a delight to have our children on campus
again!
The VBS team has been working hard to
create an enjoyable program that will invite our children to express their
Catholic Faith together and to learn about God and His Church. Interaction with parents and grandparents
and other volunteers will serve to bring out the Good News in a memorable way. The joy of Catholicism is a true gift and
our children deserve to share it.
We offer heartfelt thanks to all who
have assisted with the VBS. May God
reward you for your generosity of spirit.
And may the children whose joyful cry you will hear this week build you
up in your Faith in the Lord Who says, “Let the children come to me.”

We pray for the children
Who sneak popsicles before
dinner
Who can never find their
shoes
Who bring us sticky kisses
Who
hug us in a hurry, run out the door and forget their lunch money
We pray for the children
Who never get dessert
Who can't bound down the
street in a new pair of sneakers
Who are born in places we
wouldn't be caught dead
Who
have no safe blankie to drag behind them
We pray for the children
Who shove dirty clothes under
their bed
Who throw tantrums in grocery
stores
Who get visits from the tooth
fairy
Who
pick at their food
We pray for the children
Who don't have any rooms to
clean up
Whose pictures aren't on
anybody's dresser
Who have never seen a dentist
Who
will eat anything
We pray for the children
Who make us look under the
bed for nightmares
Whose tears we dry
Whose
smiles can make us cry
We pray for the children
Whose monsters are real
Who aren't spoiled by anybody
Who
go to bed hungry and cry themselves to sleep

The work of GLENMARY HOME MISSIONERS is the subject of next weekend’s Mission Awareness presentation. Father Les Schmidt of the GLENMARY HOME MISSIONERS will speak at all Masses on behalf of the home mission work of the Glenmary priests, brothers and coworkers.
This is a wonderful opportunity for us to hear of the Glenmary apostolate in Appalachia, the rural South and the Southwest, and to offer our prayers and financial support for their important ministry in the Church. Please be generous.

Blessed
Sacrament Bingo is returning Friday, August 3rd.
Bingo is our largest fundraiser
each year. It requires a lot of volunteers but is well worth the return.
We are making some changes for this year’s
teams:
·
Each grade
will be responsible for a team. The
exception will be our incoming Kindergarten class which will participate with
Team 8 (our Eighth Grade parents).
·
Each
team must have a Team Captain. Team
Captains will be responsible for their teams, including set up at 4:30 pm on
Fridays.
So far we have captains for Teams 2, 5, 6
& 7. Bingo will not start until we
have captains for Teams 1, 3, 4 & 8. If you have a student in these
grades and want to be the Captain, contact Mike Tennyson at 973-5377 by July
31st.
We will be having a mandatory Team Captain training on July 31st at 6pm in the annex. This training is for Team Captains as well as anyone who would like to
learn a new position or has never participated in Bingo before. Remember
our Blessed Sacrament Students are counting on you.
It's not the hours you put in but what you put in the hours that count. Any questions about Bingo for this year contact Mike Tennyson at 973-5377 or ohtenfam@gmail.com

DID YOU KNOW that Reconciliation is at
the very heart of Christianity? God has
reconciled the world to Himself through the life, death and Resurrection of His
Son Jesus Christ. Through Word and
Sacrament, the followers of Christ continue this mission of
reconciliation. We are reconciled to
God, to one another, and within our own persons.
The opening words of absolution in the
Sacrament of Penance express the truth that Christ is the center of the action
of reconciliation: “God, the Father of Mercies,
through the death and Resurrection of His Son, has reconciled the world to
Himself and sent the Holy Spirit among us for the forgiveness of sins.” Hearing these words, we are freed from what
separates us from God and from our brothers and sisters. May we proclaim this by our lives!

What we have learned together: Dreams do come true when everyone chooses to participate. A vision shared is a step forward in hope
for the future.

In an effort to maintain the appearance of our parish and school grounds, we would like to divide the areas into sections and have appointed parishioners maintain each section. There is so much ground to care for that this should make it much easier for everyone. The only duties would be to weed, rake, and clear debris. You may work on your section at your convenience and enjoy making our church/school an attractive sight for the neighborhood. Call Pat Scott at 345-4198 if you are interested. Many hands make light work.

Rev. Daniel Torson, CPPS, D.Min., will present “Dorothy Day: A Woman Haunted by God,” Sunday, July 22nd, 7pm at the Jessing Center, Pontifical College Josephinum, 7625 N. High St., Columbus. Dorothy Day (1897-1980) of New York City is nationally recognized for her work as the founder of the 20th century Catholic Worker Movement. Catholic Worker Houses of Hospitality, present in cities across the country, continue her legacy today. But, there is much more to Dorothy. She was an atheist in her college years and a journalist by profession. God kept “calling” her and God was relentless! It is a story of her faith journey that is the inspiration for contemporary journeys of faith! Dorothy Day’s spirituality and legacy is a treasured jewel of American Catholicism. Sponsored by the 2006 Diocesan Summer Institute, Fr. Torson’s talk is free of charge and open to all interested persons; light refreshments will be served.

Blessed Sacrament Women’s Ministry, A Mother’s Heart, is planning to again, host the Single Parent Family Fair on Saturday, August 11th, 10am – 2pm in the Annex & parking lot. Our goal is to have a total community sponsored event targeted to single parents, or any family that is financially, emotionally, or spiritually challenged. This annual event will enable family’s free access to a wide variety of resources that may help alleviate some of their short and long term burdens with the immediate focus on getting single parent families/children ready for school in August.
We want to offer fun for the kids along with free services such as: hair cuts, car washes, & oil changes. Our plan is to invite agencies within the county such as the Health Dept., Job & Family Services, Pathways, to name a few.
We are requesting donations from area churches and business to help is this big endeavor such as: school supplies, book bags, socks & undergarments for kids. We are also requesting items that could be used as door prizes such as gift cards to local stores.
A list of school supplies will be available in our church vestibule. Donations will be collected in the church Vestibule or parish office. Monetary donations will be used to help families pay for school fees for the coming school year.
If you work for a company or agency that could help with providing services, set up a table of information or volunteer at this event contact Monica Stanley 763-4047 or Kathy Wilson 345-4290.

Journey to Justice Retreat July 20th
– 22nd
Charity and Justice; What's the difference?
Experience what
we mean when we say "charity" and what we mean when we say
"social justice". The Catholic Social Justice teaching and experience
is one of the richest and perhaps at times hidden parts of our life as
Catholics. The weekend involves an immersion experience in two of the social
justice agencies here in Columbus as well as a full schedule of presentations
that are both informative and challenging. Topics include: Options For and With the Poor, Entering Scripture, Common Ground, Sin
and Grace, Social Analysis Incorporating the “Pastoral Circle”, and Imaging
Anew. The weekend also allows time for small/large group sharing,
relaxation, meals and refreshments.
The cost for the weekend is $60 with scholarships available for those who need financial support. We will be staying at Ohio Dominican University, Columbus. Spaces are a limited for the retreat so we encourage you to sign up quickly. Deadline For Registration Is July 13th. For more info or to register for Retreat contact Mary Ellen Thomas, 614 291-4674 or maryellen@thenewmancenter.net.

Our Marian Club is looking for person or
persons who would be willing to help coordinate and “run” funeral luncheons as
needed. This would entail contacting volunteers who would call on parishioners
who have signed-up to donate certain food items or dishes (callers are already
assigned), making sure there will be enough food for the luncheon. They would also see that there is enough
help to serve & clean up (we have a list of volunteers), and be at the
school/annex, when food arrives on the day of the luncheon. We
have a couple of volunteers but more are needed. Contact Rita Priest at 345-0320 if you can help. A meeting will
be set up in the near future to help give full instructions. Thank you.

Choose Life…Columnist David Brooks in the New York Times column, “Postures in Public, Facts in the Womb,” writes that “abortion rights forces” cannot “even look [the issue of when life begins] in the face…” They are terrified of having an honest discussion about human life, so they have built this lofty etiquette of evasion that treats abortion as the moral equivalent of a tonsillectomy.” (New York Times, 4/22/7)
