A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners:

It was 11 years ago this weekend that I celebrated my first weekend Masses at Blessed Sacrament.  The Feast of the Epiphany was my first “taste” of the Parish Family.  I remember it as a very cold and snowy weekend.  Many places were closed, and in fact, my Mother called me to tell me not to try to venture into Columbus to visit with the family.  How quickly the years have flown by!  Can you believe that we are now in our 12th year together?

All things being equal and the will of the Bishop not changing in my regard, we should be able to enjoy one another’s company for a full 12-1/2 years all together.  The time of my arrival was unusual (January 1, 1996).  The usual time of transition in the Diocese of Columbus is July, traditionally, the second Tuesday.   So, if all goes according to the expected pattern, my sojourn with you will be until July 8, 2008.  In the meantime, you have my commitment to continue our travels together full steam ahead.

Epiphany points to a proclamation of the Gospel to the Nations.  I invite you to take this Feast for the fullness of its meaning as you choose to accept Salvation from our Lord Jesus Christ.  Let your life and our life together become a beacon of Hope to others.  Faith is taking center stage this year.  Put your Faith out in front and be all that you are called to be.  Share your Faith and lead others to Christ our Eucharistic Lord.  Together we bear His Name—as the Church of the Blessed Sacrament.

The Divine Praises

Blessed be God.
Blessed be His holy Name.
Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true man.
Blessed be the name of Jesus.
Blessed be His most Sacred Heart.
Blessed be His most Precious Blood.
Blessed be Jesus in the most holy Sacrament of the altar.
Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete.
Blessed be the great mother of God, Mary most holy.
Blessed be her holy and Immaculate Conception.
Blessed be her glorious Assumption.
Blessed be the name of Mary, virgin and mother.
Blessed be St. Joseph, her most chaste spouse.
Blessed be God in His angels and in His saints.

May the Heart of Jesus in the most Blessed Sacrament
be praised, adored, and loved,
with grateful affection at every moment
in all the tabernacles of the world,
even to the end of time.  Amen.

DID YOU KNOW that Baptism is the Doorway into the Sacramental Life and into Eternity?  By Baptism, we become one with Jesus Christ and receive the Life, the Light, the Truth and the Love that are at work in Him through the power of His Holy Spirit.  There is a unity of Faith given to us.  We are made one with the Holy Trinity and one with all our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Once we have received the grace of Baptism, we are made ready to participate in all the Sacraments in their turn.  Confirmation and Holy Eucharist complete our initiation and give us the strength and nourishment to live our Faith.  Through Penance and Anointing of the Sick, our Baptismal grace is renewed when we encounter human sin and limitation in the face of illness.  Baptism opens us to our vocation, whether to the generous Single Life, Religious Life, Holy Orders or Holy Matrimony.  Each call is received and responded to by the guidance of the Spirit Who teaches us how to live and to pray.

The Lord Himself received Baptism by John in the Jordan in order to show His solidarity with us.  Sinless though He was, he chose to be baptized and to establish Baptism as the way into a sharing in His Life.

Do you know the date of your Baptism?  Why not celebrate your Baptismal Anniversary in a special way in this Year of Faith?

Choose Life…The debate over using embryonic stem cells for research with many people still ignorant of the fact that adult and umbilical cord stem cells are already treating an impressive list of over 70 diseases and injuries.  It is therefore incorrect to “advertise” embryonic stem cell research as the “only way” to help the afflicted and it is unfair to label those opposed to research that kills tiny human beings as cruel and uncaring.
