A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners:

Catholic Education is the responsibility of the Catholic community.  It is not merely a task entrusted to an “elite” group of individuals that attend to the matter for everyone else.  When a Parish chooses to establish a school, that choice affects the whole community.  In 1904, when our Parish was founded, it was decided right from the start that we would also have a School.  Each generation since the first has had to work very hard to continue the dream.

When Blessed Sacrament School began in 1905, we had the services of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs.  Now, we have a dedicated staff of lay persons.  No matter which generation speaks to you, they will tell you that as hard as they work, all their work is in vain unless they have reinforcement from the wider community.

Parents are the first teachers of their children in the ways of Faith.  The witness of other adults in the community can assist as well.  All of us together must express a unity between Faith and life, or our children will not learn.

Next week will be Catholic Schools Week.  Let’s thank God we are a Parish that has a School and let’s continue to do all we can to make Catholic Education available to our children.

Prayer for Family Life

Father in Heaven, Creator of all,

You ordered the earth to bring forth life and crowned

its goodness by creating the family of mankind.

In history's moment when all was ready,

You sent Your Son to dwell in time,

obedient to the laws of life in our world.

Teach us the same sanctity of human love,

show us the value of family life,

and help us to live in peace with all men and men,

that we may share in Your life forever.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry is need of donations of cereal, canned fruit, & jelly.  These are the items we are currently not able to obtain from the Food Pantry Network. You may drop off your donations in the wicker baskets in the back of the church or at the SVdP Center at 161 Union St., Newark. We remain indebted to our generous parishioners for their helping in feeding God's poor.

DID YOU KNOW that Witness is a Christian responsibility?  We do not have an obligation merely to practice our Faith so as to get to Heaven ourselves.  Rather, our duty is to bring others to an awareness of what Faith offers.  What we say and do, how we live and the choices we make are all meant to communicate the reality of Faith in our lives.  If others are not inspired to seek Faith for themselves by our practice of the Faith, then we are not yet fulfilling God’s expectation of us.

Who are the people you value most in your daily experience?  How have you brought your Faith to bear in your relationship with them?  Are you a witness of your Faith to them?  If you were arrested for being a Christian, would your friends and those you work with be able to bring evidence against you?

(clip art) Today…

Join in the worldwide mission of Jesus!

Join in the Propagation of the Faith!

As disciples of Jesus, baptized into the Church and strengthened by the Holy Spirit, we are called to draw others to Christ: others in our family, in our neighborhoods; others even “to the ends of the earth.” More than 2,000 years after the birth of Jesus, some two-thirds of our human family does not yet know Him in faith as we do.

Through the Propagation of Faith, we can reach those at “the ends of the earth” as we help to support the Church’s evangelizing work in more than 1,150 mission dioceses worldwide.  We are needed to offer daily prayer and regular financial help as well.

Please join the Propagation of Faith today.  Our parish will surely become more vibrant in faith as we become more missionary.
