A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR
Dear Parishioners:
Happy Lent!
We enter this Season with awareness
that the major work of the Season is God’s work. Our efforts to cooperate through Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving
serve to dispose us properly for His action in us, but the truth is, God is the
One Who is stretching us. Do you feel
stretched yet?
When we experience the struggles that
are part of human life, we have two fundamental options concerning our
response: we can either become caught up in ourselves, or we can open our minds
and hearts and reach out to others. If
we choose the former, our suffering has no real purpose except to increase our
selfishness. If we choose that latter,
uniting our sufferings to Christ on the Cross, then we have the hope of
Resurrection and our sufferings serve a redemptive purpose.
“Offer it up” was the advice many
heard from the Sisters who taught in our schools. This advice continues to be valuable. As grown-ups in the ways of Faith, we can learn to unite our
sufferings to Christ’s. He gives
meaning to life’s burdens and through Him we receive a reason for hope.
This Sunday, we are happy to celebrate
the Rite of Election with the members of our R.C.I.A. We will acknowledge their journey of Faith and send them to
Bishop Campbell who will call them to the Easter Sacraments. Let us continue to pray with and for them to
Easter and beyond.

The Great
Lenten Prayer of St Ephraim:
O
Lord and Master of my life, take from me the spirit of sloth, despondency, lust
for power and idle talk.
(Prostration)
But
grant unto me, Thy servant, a spirit of chastity, humility, patience and love.
(Prostration)
Yea,
O Lord and King, grant me to see mine own faults and not to judge my brothers
and sisters. For blessed art Thou unto ages of ages. Amen.
(Prostration)
O God, cleanse Thou me a sinner (12 times, with as many bows, and then again the whole prayer
from the beginning throughout, and after that one great prostration)
A
Prayer of Glory to Christ:
Glory to Thee, Lord.
What shall I give Thee, Lord, in return for all Thy
kindness?
Glory
to Thee for Thy love.
Glory to Thee for Thy mercy.
Glory to Thee for Thy patience.
Glory to Thee for forgiving us all our sins.
Glory to Thee for coming to save our souls.
Glory to Thee for Thine incarnation in the Virgin's womb.
Glory to Thee for Thy bonds.
Glory to Thee for receiving the cut of the lash.
Glory to Thee for accepting mockery.
Glory to Thee for Thy crucifixion.
Glory to Thee for Thy burial.
Glory to Thee for Thy resurrection.
Glory to Thee who were preached to men and women.
Glory to Thee in whom they believed.
Glory to Thee who were taken up into Heaven.
Glory to Thee who sit in great glory at the Father's right hand.
Glory to Thee whose will it is that the sinner should be saved through Thy
great mercy and compassion.

The Church’s National Collection for Black and Indian Missions in the United States will be taken at all Masses this weekend. Because of the generosity of the people of this parish and parishes around the U.S., last year, over 8.8 million dollars were contributed to the Collection and – 98 cents for every dollar was distributed. The support went to some of the neediest people across the United States; from the inner cities of the rural South and from the deserts of the Southwest to Alaska’s cold wilderness – 135 Diocese received assistance from the collection. Through your gifts, you join your sacrifice to those who sacrifice daily to lead others to Christ. You become a Co-missionary for the Church. Please Give What You Are Able. If we give a little – a lot will be accomplished.

DID YOU KNOW our Faith offers many tools for
understanding? Our life together in
worship, with Word and Sacrament, offers the primary means to grasp Faith. We believe together before we can fully
believe and understand individually. We
are a community of believers. The Mass
forms us as one body in Christ. Other
means are the Scriptures, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the writings of
the Apostolic Fathers and the Saints.
Lent can be a time when we grow in Faith by taking advantage of these
means.

Choose Life…Those who favor destroying embryos for scientific research argue, “spare embryos are doomed anyway and will be discarded if not used for research.” Well, then, what about other doomed people such as death row inmates, terminally ill patients, and patients in a persistent vegetative state? Why not use them for research as the Nazis did with those condemned to the gas chamber? (Gary Cangemi Pro-Life Reporter, Fall 2006)
