A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR

Dear Parishioners:

Last weekend we welcomed the St. Francis High School class of 1957 to Blessed Sacrament.  Deacon Bob Ghiloni hails from that class, as do a number of our parishioners.  It was wonderful to host them at our Saturday evening Mass.  They did not look much worse for 50 years of wear.  On Sunday, I also stopped in at the brunch for the St. Francis High School Alumni Association, which was held at Buckingham Place.  A lot of our own BSS grads were among the happy alumni who gathered to celebrate their days of yore.

This weekend, I participate in my own 30th year reunion from St. Charles High School, Class of 1977.  Fr. Harry Schneider, who was one of my teachers at St. Charles, is taking care of the Saturday Confessions and Mass so I can be at St. Charles with my classmates.

Events such as reunions bring home to us the simple truth that we are on a journey through life.  Where we have been and those who have been with us remain a part of us.  The values that we have learned from institutions run by our Church are truly gifts that show us how to live.

There is a danger that we will fail to pass on to the next generation what we have received if we don’t take the time to celebrate and express our gratitude in communal ways.  I invite you to reflect on the people and the institutions who have brought you to where you are today.  Make a resolution to share the memories and to support the institutions that continue the works that have served so well through the years.

wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

What we have learned together: It is possible to change.  However, real change does not happen overnight.  It is gradual.  It takes attention to details.  Genuine change requires a conversion in our way of thinking.  Nonetheless, even when some refuse to change, many hearts united as one can move a whole community in the right direction.  Change carries us along. God is the author of change that lasts forever.

DID YOU KNOW that Providence is God’s attention to us in every detail of our lives?  God loves us and manifests His Love in the minutest ways.  He weaves together a tapestry that combines threads through our whole lives and with the very fabric of all that is.  Many times, people will call what happens when things come together “coincidence.”  It is said that “coincidence” is just a name for what happens when God chooses to remain anonymous.  In truth, it is the fruit of Providence.

God provides.  He knows what we need.  He knows what is best for us.  We can rely on Providence.  God is worthy of our trust.

A Marian Prayer for Vocations

Hail Mary, full of grace;

   all generations call you blessed.

Hail Mother of God; when asked by the angel to bear the Son of

the Most High, filled with faith, you responded:

"Let it be done unto me."

Holy Mother of Jesus, at the wedding feast at Cana,

you prompted your Son to perform his first sign.

Be with us as we discern our life's work and guide us in the way

we are called to follow in the footsteps of your Son.

Holy Mother of the Savior, at the foot of the cross

you mourned the death of your only Son.

Bless and embrace the loving parents of all priests, deacons,

   brothers and sisters.

Holy Mother of the Good Shepherd,

turn your motherly care to this nation.

Intercede for us to the Lord of the harvest to send more laborers

to the harvest in this land dedicated to your honor.

Queen of Peace, Mirror of Justice, Health of the Sick,

   inspire vocations in our time.

Let the word of your Son be made flesh anew in the lives of

persons anxious to proclaim the good news of everlasting life.

Amen.
