A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR
Dear
Parishioners:
My proposal to you is this: Let’s work
together this next year to plant some seeds in the Life of the Spirit. Scripture promises us that we will reap if
we sow in the proper field.
Throughout Lent and Easter, I have
been reflecting much about what we can hope to do as this year unfolds. I have come to the conclusion that we ought
to concentrate on two realities: Prayer and People. Personally, I sense the need for more time with the Lord in
prayer. My heart longs for quiet time
in His Presence, seeking to understand His ways and to learn how to respond to
His Will in my life. To the best of my
ability, I resolve this year to give the Lord this time.
The greatest challenge of any pastor
is the reality of what I call “administrivia.” It is all the paperwork and all the kinds of things that serve to
create piles on desks, under desks, in drawers and everywhere that gets in the
way of encounters with people. How can
we best serve the People God has entrusted to us? Who needs our attention?
My goal in this year is to discern
direction based on these criteria. How
does what I do serve to enhance Prayer?
How are People served? I invite
you to join me in this discernment.
We offer special congratulations today
to our First Holy Communion Class. They
receive Jesus in the Holy Eucharist for the first time today. Welcome to all their family who are guests. We call on you to keep your children close
to Jesus by being present to Him through prayer and the Sacramental Life we
share.

Regina caeli
Throughout the Easter Season -- until Pentecost -- the Regina Caeli (Queen of Heaven) is said as the mealtime Angelus prayer. The "Hail Holy Queen" (Salve Regina) often said at the end of the Rosary, may be added.
Regina caeli, laetare, alleluia:
Quia quem meruisti portare, alleluia,
Resurrexit sicut dixit, alleluia.
Ora pro nobis Deum, alleluia.
V. Gaude et laetare, Virgo Maria, alleluia,
R. Quia surrexit Dominus vere,
alleluia.
Oremus
Deus, qui per resurrectionem Filii tui, Domini nostri Iesu Christi, mundum
laetificare dignatus es: praesta, quaesumus; ut, per eius Genetricem Virginem
Mariam, perpetuae capiamus gaudia vitae. Per eundem Christum Dominum nostrum.
Amen.
O QUEEN of heaven
rejoice! alleluia:
For He whom you merited to bear, alleluia,
Has arisen as he said, alleluia.
Pray for us to God, alleluia.
V. Rejoice and be glad, O Virgin Mary, alleluia.
R. Because the Lord is truly
risen, alleluia
Let us pray
O God, who gave joy to the world through the resurrection of Your Son, our Lord
Jesus Christ; grant, we beseech You, that through His Mother, the Virgin Mary,
we may obtain the joys of everlasting life. Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

DID YOU KNOW that the Sacrament of
Confirmation is our personal Pentecost?
Through the imposition of hands and the invocation of the Holy Spirit,
the minister of Confirmation confers the Gift of the Holy Spirit on us. We receive the same Spirit Who accompanied
Jesus through His earthly life, manifesting Himself in a visible form at the
Baptism in the Jordan by John. We
receive the same Spirit breathed on the Apostles the day of the Resurrection,
the same Spirit Who was seen as tongues of flame over the Apostles and the
Blessed Mother.
The Spirit supplies each of us with the sevenfold gifts
of Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Counsel, Piety, Fortitude and Fear of the
Lord. Through the Spirit, sent to dwell
with us by the Father and the Son, we share in the very life of the Blessed
Trinity.

The inner circle of the
diocesan logo represents an “O” for Ohio, and the slightly larger “C” outside
of the “O” is for Columbus. The ship is the Santa Maria of the fleet of
Christopher Columbus, and it sails upon waves representing the waters of
Baptism. The “M” on the sail and the star above it point to Mary, Star of the
Sea, who directs us to the safety of her Son, Jesus.

Sunday, April 29th is a special Easter celebration of Good Shepherd Sunday. In 1963 Pope Paul VI designated this day as World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Serra Club of Knox/Licking Deanery is inviting our Parish to join with the Universal Church in asking God's blessings so that we may be strengthened in our Christian Vocation." We pray that our Church may be enriched by our commitment to remain faithful to God's call. Jesus, The Good Shepherd, guides and protects us on our life journey. Take time on this special day to gather your family in your home for a special prayer or Rosary for Vocations.

The St. Vincent de Paul Center Food Pantry
In March 2007 we served 533 persons residing in 161 households with food sufficient for 4,797 meals. If you would like to donate to the SVdP Food Pantry, we are currently in need of baking ingredients (cake mixes, flour, sugar), boxed cereals, & condiments (ketchup, mustard, pickles). You can leave your donations in the back of our church and we will see that they get to the center. We remain very grateful for the generosity of all who help us help God's poor.

The Place of the Lay Person in the Church
Today
and The Resurrection of Christ
Lay men and women are taking positions of influence and responsibility in the Church today in a way that was unthinkable even shortly after Vatican II. What are the reasons for this (beyond a so-called shortage of priests)? What are its implications and the sources for this phenomenon? These questions will be the subject of an Evening of Reflection which will be offered three times: April 26th, May 2nd, & May 10th at St. Therese’s Retreat Center, 5277 East Broad St., Cols. (We want to accommodate as many as possible.)
Each session will include a presentation, guided private prayer with Scripture, a small group discussion, and end with the Eucharist. The program will begin with a light supper at 5:30 pm and conclude after the 9:15 pm Mass. Registration for each day will be limited to 25 people so make your reservation as soon as possible by calling St. Therese’s at (614) 866-1611. Cost is $20.

Choose Life… Prenatal testing for some 450 medical conditions is now available. While prenatal screening may seem to give couples more power, it often actually takes choices away. “Society’s demand for physical perfection places enormous pressure on couple to ‘conform to norm’ by aborting less-than-perfect children.” Rev.
