A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR
Dear
Parishioners:
Our God is the God of Mercy. Whatever sin may do in our lives, God’s
Mercy has a greater power. There is
only one so-called “unforgivable sin.”
Scripture describes it as the “sin against the Holy Spirit.” In short, it is the sin of not believing in
God’s power through His Spirit to forgive us.
It is a sin of pride. It is the
one sin that creates a barrier that God will not overcome.
Mercy is the quality of God that
reaches most effectively into our human experience. It is love offered again after love has been refused. If a soul is open to God’s Mercy, that soul
will receive it. All are called to act
in accord with Mercy, doing unto others as we would have others do unto us.
wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
From Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice.
The
quality of mercy is not strain'd,
It droppeth as the gentle
rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath:
it is twice blest;
It blesseth him that
gives and him that takes:
'Tis mightiest in the mightiest: it becomes
The throned monarch
better than his crown;
His sceptre shows the
force of temporal power,
The attribute to awe and
majesty,
Wherein doth sit the
dread and fear of kings;
But mercy is above this sceptred sway;
It is enthroned in the
hearts of kings,
It is an attribute to God
himself;
And earthly power doth
then show likest God's
When mercy seasons
justice.
Therefore, Jew,
Though justice be thy
plea, consider this,
That, in the course of
justice, none of us
Should see salvation: we
do pray for mercy;
And that same prayer doth
teach us all to render
The deeds of mercy.

DID YOU KNOW that Divine Mercy Sunday
offers a special moment of grace for the whole Church? With the observance of this day, a special
Indulgence is given as a sign of the Truth of God’s Mercy among us.
The conditions for this Plenary
Indulgence are given in the decree that established it in 2002.
Three conditions for the plenary indulgence
And so the Supreme Pontiff, motivated by an ardent desire to foster in Christians this devotion to Divine Mercy as much as possible in the hope of offering great spiritual fruit to the faithful, in the Audience granted on 13 June 2002, to those Responsible for the Apostolic Penitentiary, granted the following Indulgences:
A plenary indulgence, granted under the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion and prayer for the intentions of Supreme Pontiff) to the faithful who, on the Second Sunday of Easter or Divine Mercy Sunday, in any church or chapel, in a spirit that is completely detached from the affection for a sin, even a venial sin, take part in the prayers and devotions held in honor of Divine Mercy, or who, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament exposed or reserved in the tabernacle, recite the Our Father and the Creed, adding a devout prayer to the merciful Lord Jesus (e.g. Merciful Jesus, I trust in you!");
A partial indulgence, granted to the faithful who, at least with a contrite heart, pray to the merciful Lord Jesus a legitimately approved invocation.
For those who cannot go to church or the seriously ill
In addition, sailors working on the vast expanse of the sea; the countless brothers and sisters, whom the disasters of war, political events, local violence and other such causes have been driven out of their homeland; the sick and those who nurse them, and all who for a just cause cannot leave their homes or who carry out an activity for the community which cannot be postponed, may obtain a plenary indulgence on Divine Mercy Sunday, if totally detesting any sin, as has been said before, and with the intention of fulfilling as soon as possible the three usual conditions, will recite the Our Father and the Creed before a devout image of Our Merciful Lord Jesus and, in addition, pray a devout invocation to the Merciful Lord Jesus (e.g. Merciful Jesus, I trust in you).
If it is impossible that people do even this, on the same day they may obtain the Plenary Indulgence if with a spiritual intention they are united with those carrying out the prescribed practice for obtaining the Indulgence in the usual way and offer to the Merciful Lord a prayer and the sufferings of their illness and the difficulties of their lives, with the resolution to accomplish as soon as possible the three conditions prescribed to obtain the plenary indulgence.

Decree of Indulgence 29 June 2002, Apostolic Penitentiary

The Place of the Lay Person in the Church
Today
and The Resurrection of Christ
Lay men and women are taking positions of influence and responsibility in the Church today in a way that was unthinkable even shortly after Vatican II. What are the reasons for this (beyond a so-called shortage of priests)? What are its implications and the sources for this phenomenon? These questions will be the subject of an Evening of Reflection which will be offered three times: April 26th, May 2nd, & May 10th at St. Therese’s Retreat Center, 5277 East Broad St., Cols. (We want to accommodate as many as possible.)
Each session will include a presentation, guided private prayer with Scripture, a small group discussion, and end with the Eucharist. The program will begin with a light supper at 5:30 pm and conclude after the 9:15 pm Mass. Registration for each day will be limited to 25 people so make your reservation as soon as possible by calling St. Therese’s at (614) 866-1611. Cost is $20.
Who might be interested in the program? Men & women involved in various forms of lay ministry; those who feel called to a deeper involvement in the Church and its ministries; any who feel that the voice that lay men & women have in the Church today and its decisions is not commensurate with the interest and talents that they provide the Church.

Choose Life… Pat Anderson, a former attorney for Terri Schiavo’s family says the family’s efforts to prevent their daughter’s euthanasia changed her mind on abortion. She stated in an interview, “Killing babies is not the way out of social problems or personal problems.” She now sees that “abortion is no solution to the economic and educational problems a woman faces in an unplanned pregnancy.” In many ways, euthanasia is simply the other end of the abortion debate, the former pro-abortion advocate commented. “Killing off your elderly or disabled is not the way to keep your healthcare budget balanced.” Lifenews.com, 4/11/06
