A WORD FROM YOUR PASTOR
Dear
Parishioners:
April 1 has many things associated with it, especially
this year since it happens to be Passion Sunday. One of the images for Easter that many appreciate is that of
Jesus rising from the tomb and laughing at the devil. Death seemed to overcome Him, but instead, by His dying, Death
itself lost its sting.
In centuries past, April Fools’ Day
served as a reminder that the world is not all that it pretends to be. Folks who were trapped in lowly positions
without any authority were given the authority for a day to make fun of those
under whom they served without any reprisals.
The topsy turvy world was turned on its head so everyone could
have some fun at everyone else’s expense.
The next day, everything returned to normal and the world went on with
its usual flow. But the memory (at
least for those not too impaired by the other forms of “letting go” that were
part of the day) of the day before allowed all from greatest to least to see
that it did not have to be taken too seriously.
Today we join our fellow Christians in
our ecumenical walk. We also wave Palms
to welcome the Lord and we proclaim His Passion, this year in the Lucan
version. As we enter into the events of
Holy Week, let us remember Who Jesus is, and let us be His People. Let us also remember that His suffering and
death have paved the way for the Resurrection.

A Prayer For Priests
Keep them, I pray Thee, dearest Lord.
Keep them, for they are Thine -- Thy priests whose lives burn out before Thy consecrated shrine.
Keep them, for they are in the world, though from the world apart; when earthly pleasure tempt, allure, --shelter them in Thy Heart.
Keep them, and comfort them in hours of loneliness and pain, when all their life of sacrifice for souls seems in vain.
Keep them, and O remember, Lord, they have no one but Thee, yet they have only human hearts, with human frailty.
Keep them as spotless as the Host, that daily they caress; their every thought and word and deed, deign, dearest Lord, to bless. Amen

As we continue our Operation Rice Bowl journey, let us remember in prayer that as a community of faith, we have the obligation to reach out to those most in need. The Gospel specifically calls us to action on behalf of the most vulnerable members of society. May our fasting move us to action on behalf of the poor. May our almsgiving assist Catholic Relief Services’ programming in the United States. Seventy-five percent of your gifts to Operation Rice Bowl support Catholic Relief Services’ programs around the world. The remaining 25% of your contributions stay in dioceses in the U.S. to assist local hunger and poverty alleviation programs.
Drop
your Operation Rice Bowl collection boxes in the collection basket at any of
the Masses by Easter Sunday.

DID YOU KNOW that Holy Week is the
high point of our Church calendar? All of us are called to enter into the
Paschal Mystery with a deepened Faith in the Lord Jesus as our Savior.
At Blessed Sacrament, we begin with
our Palm Sunday ecumenical walk along with our fellow Christians along East
Main Street. Monday, our Penance
Service frees us from sin. Tuesday, the
Diocese of Columbus gathers with our Bishop to celebrate the Chrism Mass, at
which the Priests and Bishop renew their commitment to service, and the holy
oils used in the Sacraments are blessed.
We received these oils in our Wednesday Lenten Mass.
The Holy Triduum begins with the Mass
of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday.
Good Friday celebrates the Passion of the Lord. Holy Saturday brings a day of emptiness that
gives way to the glory that bursts forth at the Easter Vigil. Easter Sunday, we join Christians throughout
the world in our witness to Faith in the Resurrection.
Live this week fully!

Choose Life… In January last year, the Supreme Court ruled that the federal government cannot deep a doctor from legally acquiring federally-regulated narcotics, on the outside chance that he might use them to end a patient’s life, a legal practice in the state of Oregon. The ironic result of this ruling is that selling and abusing dangerous drugs are against the law, killing people is against the law, but using dangerous drugs to kill people is not against the law, if you are a doctor in Oregon.
